Lipid Histochemistry in the Skin of Indigenous Goat of Assam

Skin can no more be viewed as specialized wrapping material but more extensively as a complex organ actively communicating with the external world. Two groups were studied in the present investigation, one in peak summer and the other in peak winter, respectively. In lipid histochemistry, the super cial layer of epidermis of both summer and winter comprising stratum corneum and stratum lucidum showed intense reaction while the intermediate layer comprising stratum granulosum and stratum spinosum and the basal layer were devoid of lipids. In summer, the outer and inner root sheath of hair follicles were devoid of lipids, while in winter, the inner root sheath showed strong reactivity for lipids while those were absent in outer sheath. Cells of the sebaceous glands showed intense reactivity for phospholipid in both summer and winter.
